Providing writers a space in which to write, a way to commit more deeply to their writing practice, and a path to connect to the local literary world.

Co-Working at the FWR
$85 per month (3-month commitment)/$95 per month (month-to-month)
note: as of january 1, 2024, monthly co-working fee will be $100 per month (month-to-month, no commitment required)

IF, after reading through all of the above information, you would like to join, here are NEXT STEPS:
Attend a brief 15-minute orientation/info session about the Co-Working space. These tours are held the third Tuesday of every month at 4:00pm, at 5 Covington Street. Please reserve your space in advance by emailing us at flatironwritersroom@gmail.com with the subject line “Co-Working Tour Reservation” and which tour date you’re requesting. PLEASE NOTE: NO DROP-INS - you must reserve a space.
Sign the CO-WORKING CONTRACT (typed signature is fine), and check the box indicating whether you want to do month-to-month ($95) or a three month commitment ($85/mo) and email it to flatironwritersroom@gmail.com.
Send your first month’s payment via Venmo. Our Venmo handle is @Flatiron-Writers.
Once you’ve completed all of the above you’ll be sent instructions on how to schedule your time in the Reservations Calendar, as well as 24/7 access information.
Thanks to a generous donation, we are pleased to announce the creation of the frances marion** Co-Working Scholarship, which will give the recipient 24/7 access (subject to reservation availability) to our quiet writing space in West Asheville.

This scholarship carries all the benefits of a regular Co-Worker, including 10% off any FWR-sponsored class for which the recipient registers during the term of the scholarship.
This monthly scholarship, awarded quarterly, is renewable for up to the full 3 months of the quarter if you are making good use of the space (We define “making good use of the space” as writing in the space a minimum average of once per week during each month, and abiding by all FWR Co-Working policies). We reserve the right to transfer the scholarship to another applicant if we find you are not making good use of the space.
Before applying for the scholarship, please read our CO-WORKING CONTRACT and CO-WORKING MANUAL to make sure our writer Co-Working program is a good fit for you.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

To apply, email the following items to flatironwritersroom@gmail.com with the subject line “co-working scholarship” by the deadline:
A writing sample of up to 10 pages (double spaced, 12 point type);
A statement of no more than 250 words that addresses why you need the scholarship and describes what writing you plan to work on in the space.
We will select a recipient each quarter.
We will notify recipients within a week of the application deadline.
At the request of our donor, this scholarship is named after Frances Marion, an American screenwriter, journalist, author, and film director, often cited as one of the most renowned and prolific screenwriters of the 20th century. During the course of her career, she wrote over 325 scripts, and was the first writer to win two Academy Awards. She left Hollywood in 1946 to devote more time to writing stage plays and novels.
Her extraordinary talent, her independent spirit, and her prolific output as a writer enabled her to secure a seat at the table as a female writer in a male-dominated business, and make her a great aspirational model for all writers.

CO-WORKING AT THE FLATIRON WRITERS ROOM
WE WILL continually re-evaluate and monitor the COVID AND GENERAL PUBLIC HEALTH situation as things progress.
CURRENTLY, participants ARE required to reserve their blocks of time AND ROOM CHOICE online PRIOR TO ARRIVAL.
there are THREE DIFFERENT SPACES: the blue office (“BLUE”), the dining/conference room (“PEACH”), and the main room (“GREEN”).
We have a BI-weekly disinfecting and cleaning schedule for the building.
all co-workers must OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING RULES:
please do not attend if you are sick or symptomatic in any way, or have been exposed to someone you know is sick or symptomatic.
We will make our best efforts (subject to shortages) to provide hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes in the space, but please be sure you bring some with you in case we run out.
Common Sense Precautions:
NCDHHS encourages people to take common sense precautions to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases:
Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds at a time, ESPECIALLY AFTER COUGHING, SNEEZING OR PRIOR TO EATING.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. discard TISSUE in a trash can immediately.
Clean and disinfect any surfaces that are frequently touched.
